Hotels in Bayswater London Discounted Bayswater HotelsOne of the largest areas of the borough of City of Westminster, Bayswater has become indelibly associated with the variety of its population, which gives it a wonderful and lively character. Just take a walk along its streets or ride the tube through its many stops, and you will experience it first hand. The name itself is a source of debate. There are quite a few rivers flowing through London, namely the Thames and the Westbourne, so it is unsurprising that many locations in London have references to anything related to water in their names. When William the Conqueror came to the throne in 1066, he gave a lot of land in London to his supporters and family as gifts and compensation. One of who was Bainiardus, a tenant of the Abbey of Westminster who owned what we know as Bayswater. He resided at Baynard's Castle along the river Thames. Sadly, this building was burnt down in 1666. The area was renowned for the quality of its water and people brought their horses and cattle here for watering as early as the late XIVth Century. Over time, his name and the reason why people came became inseparable resulting in the name 'Bayswater' some time in the XVIIIth Century.

The historical popularity of Bayswater is evident in the number of people who call it their home. The lively street are teaming full of locals and tourists alike here. The multicultural nature of this splendid and vibrant area stands out vividly in the many different types of restaurants available locally. An abundance of hotel accommodation in the area means you will always be able to find somewhere to stay locally. If architecture is a passion of yours then I would recommend being on the lookout for Victorian mansion blocks, some of which have been transformed into flats. They are architecturally magnificent large buildings and private homes. Some of the gardens to visit near or in Bayswater are Kensington, Leinster and Craven Hill. If you are looking for a bit of High Street culture, go to Queensway and Westbourne Grove. Some of Bayswater's famous past residents include Winston Churchill and J. M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan.
