Good stuff: Ideal location in Notting Hill. Trendyness of the area--reminded me of the East Village, NYC. Proximity to Bayswater Road (3 blocks); and public transportation/tour stops ( Notting Hill tube station is 3-5 blocks away and tour buses run every 1/2 hour along Bayswater St ). Helpfullness of reception staff. They are very accomodating.
Bad stuff: 1) Room cleanliness/maid service. Maid did not give fresh towels every day. We had to ask for it. Maid also forgot to make all beds; if we turned up sheets. 2)Continental breakfast, food selection is palid---washed out orange juice, tasteless granola crackers, toast, marmalade, washed out coffee. I would have been happy with just some decent coffee/tea and a croissant.
Overall: This was a fair stay; but based on the cost, a decent buy for a budget hotel. The rooms have a great garden view though; and the block has beautiful townhouses that are quite historic; and compensates for the inconveniences, once inside. Unless you are able to receive a room on the first floor; be aware, the stairs are steep. I thought I was in great shape as I live on a third floor walk up New York City apartment; but the few times I had to go upstairs left me a little out of breath.
